How far ahead can RoadOwl detect wildlife?

Standard high beams illuminate roughly 250 to 350 feet ahead. RoadOwl's military-grade thermal sensor detects the heat signature of large animals like moose or deer at distances exceeding 1,300 feet, giving you crucial extra seconds to slow down before the animal ever enters your headlights.

Does it work in heavy rain, fog, or snow?

Yes. This is where RoadOwl outshines standard cameras and human vision. Thermal waves penetrate heavy fog, rain, and snow. Our sensor uses a specialized aerospace-grade Germanium lens designed to read heat signatures through harsh weather conditions where standard glass would fail.

Can it really detect black ice?

Yes. Black ice is nearly invisible to the human eye because it's transparent. However, thermal imaging detects the distinct infrared absorption and reflectance properties of water, ice, and dry pavement, allowing the AI to flag freezing road conditions before you drive over them.

Why can't I mount the camera on my dashboard inside the car?

Unlike standard dashcams, thermal imaging cannot see through regular windshield glass. Standard glass reflects infrared radiation, acting like a blindfold to thermal sensors. RoadOwl requires an external mount because its camera uses a specialized Germanium lens that allows infrared heat signatures to pass through.

How does the system handle my car's power fluctuations?

Automotive 12V batteries fluctuate wildly while driving, causing cheap electronics to glitch or restart. We engineered RoadOwl with a custom automotive-grade power supply that takes dirty vehicle power and converts it to flawless, stable voltage, ensuring zero latency or dropouts.

How am I alerted when an animal is detected?

RoadOwl fires multiple simultaneous alerts: an onboard buzzer with escalating patterns (caution vs. danger), voice announcements through your phone speaker ("Caution. Deer detected. 38 meters."), haptic vibration, and visual overlays on the companion app showing species, distance, and bearing.

Can I use the cameras for anything other than driving?

Absolutely. Both cameras are magnetically removable. When you park, detach them and deploy anywhere — your property perimeter, a barn door, a trail location. Same AI, same alerts, different mission. Each camera also works independently with its own app or custom RoadOwl software for home monitoring, livestock watch, or wildlife tracking.

Is there a rental option for occasional highway trips?

Yes! We're developing a flexible daily rental program. Similar to a U-Haul model, you'll be able to pick up a RoadOwl unit from partnered locations along major highway routes, mount it for your trip, and drop it off at another partner location at your destination.
